Action Options in the Sphere of Faith
- Use the ideas and suggestions in the
free, four-page handout for the first International Day of Prayer and
Fasting for Victims of Human Trafficking that the Salvatorians created. It's
downloadable
here.
-
READ
Global Slave Trade Prospers
from the May 2001 edition of the National Catholic Reporter. Talk about it
with your local community. What surprised you? What
upset you? What insights did you gain?
- Study and understand
the basics related to trafficking issues. Bring the
topic up in conversation and prayer.
- Request the following book from your
public library. If they don't have it, ask them to purchase it, thus raising
the awareness of your community.

GLOBAL ECONOMY By Kevin Bales University of California Press, 298 pages,

- Use gender-inclusive language to
promote and raise to consciousness the inherent equality of both men and
women. Educate your pastors, preachers, homilists, Parish Councils, and
others to do the same and tell them why you are doing it.
- Create a "signature" or "tag" using
your email program which includes this, or a similar, statement. Set up your
email to automatically add your name and this "signature" line to every
email you send. Join the Salvatorians in an international response to
the issue of women and children being held in slavery in our nation and in
our time. http://www.sdssisters.org/slavery
- Ask your parish to include an
intercessory prayer during the Prayer of the Faithful which raises up the
reality of slavery in the USA and other nations.
- Ask your parish or faith community to
sponsor the costs of having a Salvatorian come to talk about the issue of
slavery.
Email for more information.
- Become aware of which local companies follow "fair trade"
practices. Visit
http://homepage.mac.com/srjeanschafersds/stoptraffic/stoptraff310.pdf
for detailed information.
- When a company follows fair trade practices, it has made a
commitment NOT to sell or use products made by slave labor. Click on the
links below for additional information about fair trade practices. When you
purchase from fair trade companies, tell them WHY. When you choose NOT to
purchase from companies that sell products produced under slavery
conditions, tell THEM why too!
