Hello,

My name is Sister Mary Lee Grady,  and I am one of the three members of our New Membership Team.

Back in 1990,  I was invited to move from the local community where I had been living to our newly established welcoming house.   There,  I had a chance to meet and work with young members and other interested women,  and ever since,  I've been interested in and involved in formation work.

When I was asked by our SDS leadership to serve as part of our New Membership Team,  I said "yes,"  because, even though we don't know for sure what religious life in the future will look like,  I completely believe in the future of religious life.

What fascinates me about being in this ministry is the opportunity to be part of an unfolding journey of a person with God.   It's such a mystery to see how God works in lives.

I've enjoyed a wide variety of experiences that put me in touch with women who are trying to figure out where God is calling them.   I was both a teacher and a counselor in our high school.   I worked with young women who received the Salvatorian Service Award,  and I have been to vocation fairs,  panel discussions,  and international meetings that focus on helping women discern where God is calling them.

My educational background really helps me in my work with interested women.   My BA is in Latin,  French,  German,  and Education, with an emphasis on high school teaching.   My Masters in Counseling,  my training as a therapist,  and my many years in working with people in various administrative and leadership positions have all helped me learn to listen and see beneath the surface as I meet women who are courageous and are asking the question,  "Me??"

I love what I am doing in this ministry.   Recently,  we enjoyed meeting three wonderful women who came to one of our  "Come and See"  weekends to check out our life and prayer.   I also get a lot of energy when I see new members recognizing and using their gifts for the good of our SDS community,  for the Church,  and for the world.   And,  even though most folks don't get a big thrill with something like this,  I really was excited when our New Membership Team finished our three-year goal plan!

Yours in Christ,

Mary Lee
