Sisters of the Divine Savior

Hola! Me llamo Liza!

I grew up in a small agricultural village called Concepcion, outside a town called San Rafael de Heredia, in Costa Rica. I lived on a coffee farm, attended the local elementary school and as a young teen I sang in our small church choir.

During my vacation time from school I worked on our family and neighbors' farms picking coffee. This way I earned money for my vacation fun and my school uniforms for the following year.

While attending high school in San Rafael I began contemplating religious life. In 9th grade I was transferred to another county to finish high school. I attended Our Lady of Guadalupe High School in Santo Domingo de Heredia. This high school was run by Saint Joseph Sisters from Mexico. There I had the opportunity to explore my calling, understand it, have a serious talk with God about this call. The Saint Joseph Sisters supported me and guided me through the struggle.

In later years, after caring for my mother, I returned to the United States as an adult. In my first few years in Milwaukee, I met the Salvatorian Sisters. I interacted with them for about a year and decided to enter in 1995.

I was attracted to the Salvatorians because of our works at the international level, as well as our work with the laity and Salvatorian Priests and Brothers.

I am currently in final vows and I just finished graduate school. I earned a degree as a Clinical Social Worker.

You might ask, "What does a Clinical Social Worker do?"

We specialize in mental health and we are trained to do psychotherapy.   I will soon start to use my new skills at Catholic Charities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Some of my volunteer time is currently spent assisting the Hearing Loss Association of America. I assist with their website, and I help organize meetings and conferences. I also really enjoy music, hiking and working on social concerns issues.
