On July 3rd each year we celebrate the feast of St. Thomas. St.
Thomas was an apostle - one sent out to spread
the Good News. Salvatorians were founded as
an "apostolic community." This means
that like the spostles we are called to make
Jesus out savior known by whatever means where
ever the Spirit inspires us. This also means
that we are called to keep moving, even when
we have been successful in one way, so that
it is not the work - the "mean"
- that is important but th goal of the means:
to spread the Good News of Jesus our Savior
through His Spirit for the glory of God the
Father.
St. Thomas is known as "the
doubter." Yet Jesus used Thomas' doubt
to bless all of us:
"You believe, Thomas because
you have seen. Blessed are those who have
not seen but who have believed." Doubts
can sometimes actually be a means to move
further into our faith. Like the man who wanted
his son to be cured we pray: "Lord, I
do believe; help my unbelief."
