The
"how does this
work" aspect of discerning
whether God is asking you to
consider being a Sister
seems like a complex
unknown.
That's why we've taken the
time in this section of our
website to describe the
process for you, using
every-day language. The
process is roughly the same
for everyone, but one of the
unique things about the
Salvatorians is that, in
almost any step, we
individualize the process to
match each person's needs!
Here's how it would commonly
look:
Becoming a Sister of the
Divine Savior
Becoming a sister is a
journey.
It starts with a
level of maturity that
allows you to say “Is
God possibly calling me to
serve this world as a
Sister?” It allows you to
ask and discover answers
to that question on an
ever deeper and more authentic
level. As you move through
each phase of the journey,
you work with other
Salvatorians, pray, reflect,
and learn, so that you
continually discern whether
you’re journeying where and
how God calls you.
The
technical term for this
journey is “formation.”
As
your formation journey
continues, you engage in
theological reflection,
scripture study, and
personal, interpersonal, and
spiritual growth.
Formation
is not a “solo” journey.
As
you grow in your knowledge
and experience of God,
yourself, the Salvatorian
Community, and the people
you serve, you continually
deepen your relationships
with God and with others.
Does
“formation” ever end?
Actually, no.
While there
are definite stages of
initial formation, once a
sister celebrates her
Perpetual Vows, she enters a period of
“ongoing formation.”
This
period lasts for the rest of
her life!
Initial Formation
is a long
period, but that’s
important, since one of the
purposes of initial
formation is growing into
your ability to live as a
Salvatorian. Just as a
healthy, happy, “forever”
marriage requires much
learning, growing, and
mutual change, so too does
the initial formation
process.
